A very fine playing classical guitar, this 2005 Takamine C132S has a big, sweet sound. It was owned until his passing by the gifted singer-songwriter Eric Hansenand he wrote and performed a good number of songs on this instrument (see the YouTube link in this listing for Eric playing this guitar). I love gospel music! The song I learned recently is Worthy Is the Lamb, sung on Youtube by Miriam Webster from Hillsong. It is so worshipful. I played that song, When I Look Into Your Holiness, and Until Then in my devotion this morning. Until Then, written by Stuart Hamblen was one of the tribute songs for the Japanese tsunami victims of March 11, 2011. It was heart wrenching to hear this song for weeks after the great tragedy in Fukushima, Japan.
I have a Takamine C132S classical guitar that was ‘converted’ from a pagan to a Christian guitar. (For real!) At one time I had 3 guitars- a Yamaha, Washburn steel and Epiphone folk guitar, but when I moved from a large home to a condo in the city, the Yamaha and Washburn were sold in our downsizing. Anyway, I was passing a pawn shop one day and went in to look around. I asked the guy if he had a classical guitar; he showed me a couple in his store front that were worn and cheapies. I persisted and asked if he had any other classical guitars. Maybe he thought I wasn’t a serious buyer and I would walk out. Well, he went in the back and came out with a Takamine classical which came in a tan hard cover case with heavy plush padding. It was in mint condition; the case was covered with New Age decals. I called my professional guitarist son to come down and check it out. Long story short, I bought the guitar which used to play in a rock band and now plays gospel music! The kid who sold the guitar wanted to play heavy metal and needed money to get a steel guitar!
The story of what I call my ‘Martin Taka‘goes like this: A friend in my ukulele group collects all kinds of musical instruments and I like the small neck of the steel string guitar which I missed when I sold my classic Washburn. It was a beauty with brown tones, had a cut out and equipped with amplifier jack. I used to play for morning devotion and in our school assemblies when I was a teacher and accompanied my fourth graders. After I retired I thought I would never need a steel string guitar again. I was mistaken because I do enjoy the steel string sound. When my friend showed me two steel string classic collector guitars, an Alvarez and Takamine, I got the Takamine for a steal. It is very old but plays well; it is an F310S, known as the lawsuit model because Takamine used the Martin design for this model. That’s the story of my two guitars!
I also play the ukulele and have a Yamaha keyboard. I play my instruments by ear, and for mostly my own enjoyment. I cannot compete with the accomplished musicians in my family!
